Windows XP Installation

You must have encountered various type of errors while installing Windows Xp on your desktop computer or laptops. These errors sometimes being minor may have led you in trouble. 1. Error Message: "STOP: 0x0000000A irql_not_less_or_equal."

This message occurs when you are switching your system from Windows 98/Me to Windows XP. As par Microsoft, the possible cause of this error is an incompatible hardware device or device driver. In order to work around this issue, reboot your machine; if the Setup program offers you the option to revert to your previous OS, go for it. If don’t get any option to revert to your earlier OS, Microsoft recommends that you remove every unused piece of hardware from your PC. This includes any hardware components that you absolutely don't need to run the computer, from USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices to Video and sound cards.



2. Error Message: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

This error occurs when the Setup program is unable to read from your Windows XP installation CD. If your installation CD is damaged or scratched, you'll have to replace it and retry.



3. Error Message: "Setup has disabled the upgrade option, could not load the file D:\i386\Win9xupg\W95upg.dll. Setup cannot continue, because this version can only install as an upgrade."

As the message indicates, this error occurs because the Setup program incorrectly assumes the upgrade option is not applicable for your software.

There are two ways to fix this problem that Microsoft advises. At first, clean boot your machine and try to run Setup once the boot process completes. The other method is to copy the i386 folder from the installation CD to a folder on your hard disk. If you're already running Windows, simply use Windows Explorer to browse to the i386 folder in your installation CD, right-click the folder, and click Copy. Go to a location on your hard drive, right-click, and click Paste. The copy process might take a few minutes because you are transferring a huge amount of data when you perform this.
