Microsoft® Windows® is an operating system with a graphical user interface. In 1985, Microsoft® made improvements on MS-DOS® and launched an operating system called Windows®.
The Windows® operating systems soon became widely accepted. Today, Microsoft® Windows® has gained total control of the market with the latest version, Windows® 7, claiming about 91% of the market.
Windows® is the term given to all the versions of the operating systems of Microsoft®. They are many and each one emerges as an improvement on the features of the previous one. Some of the versions of Windows® operating systems include, Windows® 1.0, Windows® 95, Windows® 98, Windows® ME, Windows® Embedded Compact (CE), Windows® XP and Windows Vista®. The latest versions include Windows® 7, Windows Server® 2008 R2 for the servers, and Windows Mobile® 6.5 for mobile devices.
This includes a collection of related programs designed for desktops as well as servers that work with Windows® and Mac® OS X operating systems. It all started in 1989 with the following programs: Microsoft® Word, Excel® and PowerPoint®, designed for Macintosh® and later, in 1990, a package was also introduced for Windows®. A new version called Professional version that has additional features including Access® and Microsoft® Schedule Plus was also introduced. The latest Office packages include, in addition to the above features, features like Virtual Basic as well as OLE data integration. The versions that are up to date are Office® 2007, Office® 2008.
